Project Objective: The project foresees to build sustainable public infrastructure in the South Coast area, specifically in Vlora River area. This will improve the living conditions of locals and will transform tourism sector one of the main pillars of the local and regional economy.
Context
Public infrastructure doesn't support economy development and doesn’t provide useful services for locals and tourists who frequent this area. The project aims at the reconstruction of the Vlora River road, which enables the connection of this area with the Ionian coast and the Albanian Riviera.
Impakti
The project is of particular importance for economic development and improvement of the living conditions of residents and the whole area, where the benefits are as follows:
- Road safety as the axis is passable throughout the year (and there is approximately 200% traffic increase during the summer);
- Alternative transport option and reduces travel time
- Connectivity to regional and local markets to facilitate commerce of local products
- Improving social interaction and services as well as access to basic services
- Diversification of the Local Economy
- Opportunities for new initiatives and employment
Results
During 2016 were identified all steps for the preparation of the documentation and project implementation.Firstly were prepared the Terms of Reference for Supervision of Works.
The contract for Lot I, By Pass Vlora - Peshkopi - Gjorm, with a length of 23.2 km, was concluded on February 24, 2017. The civil works started in March 2017 and ended on June 29, 2019. The object is in construction guarantee.
The works contract for Lot II, Gjorm - Brataj - Lasko Bridge was signed on April 17, 2019 and the works started on May 13, 2019. Works are proceeding normally.
For Lot III, Lasko Bridge - Kuc and Lasko Bridge - Qeparo has been announced the winner for the civil works contract. The contract was signed on May 8, 2020 and the works started on May 8, 2020.
In the beginning of 2021, the services consultancy was conducted for the preparation of the feasibility studies in terms of the transport infrastructure projects for the following municipalities: Vlora, Himara and Saranda.
