Berat is a city with about 65,000 inhabitants and every year more and more is being noticed a revival of the best traditional of this city, against the increasing number of visitor. Considered as an option not to get lost in many international tourist guides, the visitor will find in Berat a rare heritage from the past; a long and rich range of historical, cultural, ethnographic, architectural and religious values, such that constitute a considerable potential for tourism. This is also supported by hospitality services, traditional cuisine combined with modern, as well as special handicrafts. (wood carving, embroidery, works in silver and other metals, works in straw, carving in stone tiles, decorative works in stone, etc). Considering this tourist resources of the city it is possible to develop family tourism and more.

These promising premises in an emerging tourism bring the need to improve infrastructure as well as facilitate traffic in the UNESCO protected area.

The purpose of the intervention, implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, is the continuation of the Berat ring road. A new road will also be built from the intersection with "Santa Lucia" Street to the intersection with "Antipatrea" Street at the exit of Uznova. The connection of the new road (New Ring) with the promenade "Osumi" will start about 150m from the intersection with the road "Santa Lucia" and the part of 150m to the bend will only be re-paved with a new asphalt layer and be equipped with new signage. The geometric parameters of the road are in full compliance with the GLP (General Local Plan) and the requirements of the municipality of Berat. The road will have a carriageway with two senses of movement, urban road with sidewalks on both sides and bicycle lanes on one side. Part of the project will be the construction of a road connecting the neighborhood "Uznova" with a length of 600m. Also the construction of two access roads (agricultural roads) for the areas between the new road and the river Berat. Another important element in the project will be the construction of an 18m long bridge and an underpass.

Traffic facilitation will be enabled as a result of diversion of existing heavy traffic in the perimeter ring of the city, displacing the movement of vehicles away from the city center. Also in Berat passes the only interurban road that connects Corovoda and Polican in the East. This has consistently led to congested traffic in heavy vehicles transporting materials (stone slabs) or other goods in the service of the economy that describe this road segment. The projected axis will function as a city ring and together with the solution of geometric and structural elements will have a positive impact from both a functional and a tourist point of view.

Also the road during the night hours will be illuminated, lighting which is provided by the street lighting network located on the sidewalk. Along the road there will be metal partitions between the lane of the vehicle and the sidewalk or bicycle lane, to prevent the uncontrolled movement of people, as well as to make drivers aware of the vehicles that are passing in an urban area.

This road will meet the highest qualities in terms of:
-Road safety
-Capacity
-Road user behaviour
-Accepted speed
