Work in progress in Vlora River Road - LOT II
TIRANA – Excavations in Vlora River Road - LOT II are continuing intensively even though the terrain is difficult. The segment Gjormi Bridge –Brataj -Lasko Bridge will offer the best safety parameters.
The inhabitants are eagerly awaiting the start of works in the other lots because difficulties in circulation have prevented the development of the area. This situation has been a real challenge for inhabitants. Nearly 30 years of promises, where inhabitants have faced many barriers such as the lack of healthcare services, long distance to schools, inability to sell agricultural and livestock products in real markets. The coast was considered a luxury and the connection to the nearest city was a challenge for the inhabitants of the area known as the heart of Labëria. The lack of infrastructure has influenced the economy of these families. The project funded by the Albanian government, Kuwait Fund and Saudi Fund is implemented by the Albanian Development Fund. The construction of the corridor-94km will connect 60 villages of the area with Vlora city(with a population of over 40,000)
The road from the Bypass of Vlora and Levan -Tepelena highway will provide a faster access to Himara, Qeparo and Borsh. Agro tourism will be the main economic direction of the area.
The valley has a rich collection of cultural sites and monuments such as: the ancient city "Amantia", “Shpella prehistorike e Velçës ", "Ura e Bratit ", "Guri i Vranishtit" “Shpella e shkruar e Lepenicës ", “Buronjat e Kuçit”, etc. These cultural sites combined with the natural resources of the area increase the opportunities to develop cultural, coastal and mountainous tourism.
This axis will connect the villages of Vlora with Himara, enabling inhabitants of Tepelena and other cities to have quick access to the coast.
After the completion of the works in Babica - Gjorm LOT, works are continuing in LOT II. The project for the four lots foresees the treatment of village centers along the Vlora River Road into urban areas in function of the community, with pedestrian crossings, security and lighting elements structural works and greenery.
