TIRANA-Growth of tourism in the coastal area of Orikum and Himara needs a long-term solution in the development of water supply infrastructure and waste water treatment. Germany and European Union has supported this project.

Water Supply Program IV, implemented by the Albanian Development Fund is built on the previous RWSP Programs. It is expected to be completed in 2024. The total funding is Euro 44 million to be used for construction of water supply network and waste water treatment plants in these two municipalities.

Locals of these villages for years have awaited a final solution for the supply of potable water. The next 5 years, new water supply schemes will be built in Himara, Kuc, Buronje, Pilur, Kudha, Vuno, Jal, Livadh, Himare village, Qeparo, Qeparo village etc. Water supply schemes foresee construction of new warehouses, construction of a new network, household connection as well as installation of household water meters. The sewerage network in Himara will be completely rehabilitated, while the wastewater treatment plant will be constructed from the beginning, thus avoiding their discharge to the sea.

Orikum is the other municipality that will benefit from investments in the framework of the Program for Water Supply of Rural Areas IV. Even though Orikum is a highly frequented area, it suffers from the lack of potable water and there is still no solution for wastewater treatment.Since 2015, the construction of wastewater treatment plant has been completed and covers the Orikum town and the villages of Dukat, Rradhime and Tragjas. This plant is not operational. The installation of this plant and potable water supply will be completed through this investment.

At this stage has been completed the feasibility study for Himara and Orikum area. The design of the projects for water supply schemes is the next step. RWSP IV will supply with potable water locals and tourists will improve management capacities and will provide a final solution for waste water treatment. This project aims to solve the problem of water supply for 80,000 residents and tourists who visit these two areas.
