The city of Berat is one of the most coveted tourist attractions, where last year were registered about 140,000 tourists. It has gained curiosity of international tourists and the high interest is attributed to its authenticity, history and architectural values. The high number of visitors makes necessary systematization and restoration of the public space in the city center in order to provide sufficient conditions for the accommodation of visitors.

The intervention is financed by the Albanian Government and implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, which aims to provide a final solution to circulation of vehicles and pedestrians, to facilitate traffic and to provide a necessary underground space for all types of vehicles. Parallelly, the works on its’ support spaces will improve city center’s landscape through greenery and urban furniture. At the same time, various social and cultural activities can take place in this area.

In this way, the square becomes functional and accessible to citizens, promoting interaction of community and making it a new attraction for tourists.

So far, 60% of works is completed and the project will hopefully be finished on time so it would be ready for touristic season.
