Reconstruction of the road Peshkepi – Selenica
Currently, 45% of the work is completed
As part of the Vlora River Project, the work is in process for the construction and rehabilitation of the Peshkëpi - Selenica axis. For this segment, the work is being done on the existing route and is the continuation of the road segment junction Spital - Peshkepi and connects the Municipality of Vlora with the Municipality of Selenica as well as the oil extraction area Vllahine, which includes a carriageway with two directions of movement. The segment is 14.3 km long and is accompanied by other access roads, connecting all the villages on both sides of the road.
Considering previous condition of the road, asphalt layers were depreciated, which constituted a risk to traffic safety and vehicles itself. With the reconstruction of the axis, the Albanian Development Fund with the support of the Kuwaiti Fund and the Albanian Government, aims to completely rehabilitate the segment. This process will improve its technical parameters, substrates, structural works, ironwork, concrete, retaining walls as well as requalification of the side channels, which eliminate the presence of water across this axis.
Moreover, the road has flat terrain and its reconstruction has great importance for sustainable socio-economic development at local and regional level, which will have a significant impact on improving the well-being of the community. The latter has shown considerable interests for the development of the new initiatives in terms of agrotourism (inns, hotel structures etc.).
The Peshkepi-Selenice project represents particular importance for the country as the axis turns out to have a strategic dimension for the development of tourism in the area around the Vlora River as well as it connects the Vlora region with the southern territories on the Ionian coast.
