First impressions of the latest changes!
We are in the last months of works in the city of Roskovec, with added attention to urban requalification and construction of the new center.
Funded by the Albanian Government, this set of interventions in the service of residents aim to create recreational and functional areas.
The square means a meeting point for all generations.
Workers continue to lay stone slabs on the remaining surfaces, and in the meantime you may notice the “impatient movements” of children who have a new place to play.
The new space for older gentlemen who play dominoes with the same nerve even after years.“All cards on the table”.
Opening a cafe in front of a kindergarten may be an opportunity to increase economy and business, as movements are expected to increase, especially during spring.
People are aware of the transformation from an early collection of warehouses, to a recreational space and a new municipal building for basic services.
The investment foresees a new underground engineering network, installation of signage and lighting along the entire length of the square, playgrounds, greenery, etc.
Despite the "inherited complexity of the camera", we managed to get some interviews from inhabitants.
“Before there were some old warehouses, mice, dirt everywhere - what can I tell you!
A real scandal, with mud and everything, has now come to light. They have done an excellent job. The sewers are good; we don’t flood anymore at the entrance. Now we fear nothing, only earthquake we can’t afford.”
– Meanwhile, another citizen, who owns a kindergarten "overlooking the square", confesses that he will expand his business.
"The works are qualitative, a job well done doesn’t need proofs. Those buildings were once like in the Middle Ages. Now that spring is approaching I think there will be movements and circulation in the afternoon. I will open a cafe here.”
– And last but not least, a mother / resident of the neighborhood for years, who together with her sister, on the benches recalled the past.
Due to the bad infrastructure she had health problems.
“Water up to chest. I got asthma here. We could not go down because the water will cover the stairs before dawn. Now look at the greenery, it’s clean and paved. We sit here with my sister, getting sunlight. We wish you all the best.”
They are grateful. They wish to forget the past and wish children to enjoy a new relaxing and entertaining public space.
