Works starting soon in Vlora River Road -LOT II
The construction of the segment Gjormi Bridge –Brataj -Lasko Bridge starts next week and will offer the best parameters of safety. The project foresees improving geometric road parameters, extension of the route, leveling of the road with rock material and treatment of all substrates.
TIRANA-Construction works are scheduled to begin soon in Vlora River Road-Lot II, a big project linking the villages of this area with the rest of the country and emerging in the heart of the Ionian coast.
The construction of the segment Gjormi Bridge –Brataj -Lasko Bridge starts next week and will offer the best parameters of safety. The project foresees improving geometric road parameters, extension of the route, leveling of the road with rock material and treatment of all substrates. Throughout the road segment-27.1 km are planned structural works, culverts of different sizes and 9 new bridges with a length of 30-150m. In the other part of the road, which is for pedestrians is planned the lighting system and sidewalks.
Vlora River Road, 94 km starts from the Bypass of Vlora - Peshkepi - Gjormi Bridge - Brataj – Kudhesi Bridge – Qeparo- Kuc village, as well as the segment from the roundabout of Peshkepia - Selenice - Levan -Tepelena highway. This axis runs through villages of Peshkepi, Kote, Gjorm, Lepenica, Kallarat, Brataj, Kuc, Kudha and ends in Qeparo.
The population of the area is over 40,000 inhabitants and represents about 16% of the entire population of Vlora Region. In this area there are more than 60 villages with a high density of population and especially young age.
In addition to ensuring the connection of these villages to Vlora and the coast by promoting new opportunities for the development of agriculture and agro-tourism, the fantastic panorama along the entire road is expected to foster the development of sports activities such as trekking and biking. The latter can contribute to the transformation of the entire valley into a tourism destination.
Based on the feasibility study the project foresees the improvement of road accessibility and shortening of distance. This project will provide social and economic benefits including farmers’ access to regional and local markets, reducing unemployment and increasing of income for locals through the intensification of existing economic activities. This road is expected to bring a diversification of the local economy with new activities such as ecotourism, social, sports and cultural activities, etc.
