The Regional and Local Roads Connectivity Project in Albania – ADF organizes a consultative session on environmental and social components
Tirane – 4 January, 2018. Local governing units benefiting from the Regional and Local Roads Connectivity
Project which is under implementation from the Albanian Development Fund, representatives of partner
ministries and agencies focused on environmental issues, including the Ministry of Environment,
Agency of Protected Areas, National Environmental Agency, were present in a consultative session that
discussed environmental and social issues of this project.
This project, which is expected to be financed by the Albanian Government through a loan from the World Bank,
is foreseen to start this year. Interventions of this project aim at the improved access of regional
communities to the economic and touristic centers, as well as the increased capacities of the beneficiary
municipalities for road infrastructure management. The focus of this project will be the use of these
connections for economic benefit, especially in relation to agriculture and tourism, already identified
as key sectors in the economic growth of the country.
Environmental protection, resettlement and cultural heritage protection were among the main
issues discussed in the meeting. The aim of the meeting was to familiarize participants with the legislative
requirements and the organization of the work for assuring that environmental and social safeguards for this
project are respected.
For this purpose, the main safeguards documents on this context have been made available for the public and discussed in the meeting organized at the ADF premises, on January 04, 2018.
